Artist's Statement:

Dissections: Transpose and Fuse

Olivia Britt’s paintings are self-contained entities that she structures with interlocking shapes and lines denoted by shifts in color and mass. The title of this exhibition refers to a particular action within her painting process whereby she excises a physical mass of paint and transposes it to another location within the painting.

The meaning of each painting is in the change and movement of paint over time. Materials are the physical embodiment of intent and expression, establishing a history of process unique to each painting. Britt’s work seeks to solidify experience, not to identify something known.
