Gerard Mossé thinks about color as light rather than pigment. While his intention is to create psychological space, his efforts are based on carefully considered color relationships explored in preparatory studies. Mossé sees himself working like a jazz musician—improvising within set parameters—to create a luminous space in which the viewer can take a deep visual breath. The current show will include a selection of oil and graphite paintings on vellum. Gerard Mossé has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in New York City where he is based. Most recently he showed at the Elga Wimmer Gallery (solo, 2010) and had work included in In the Presence of Light and Works on Paper II at the Danese Gallery (both 2011), Abstraction Revisited at the Chelsea Museum of Art (2010), and Winter Salon at the Bjorn Ressle Gallery (2010). Mossé spent time in Seattle in 2000 as a visiting lecturer at the University of Washington, and his work appeared locally in Abstraction/Construction at Soil Gallery. Mossé received his MFA from Claremont Graduate School of Art in 1985.
